For the past eight years, the Adventures in Supercomputing (AiS) program has
met the challenge of setting students on the path to the high-skill,
high-wage jobs so critical to America's competitiveness in the 21st century.
By encouraging diverse students to participate in mathematics, science,
and computing, the AiS program introduces these disciplines to students
in a fun, project-based manner. AiS using the emerging field of computational
science to encourage students to combine their knowledge of mathematics,
science, engineering and computer science to create projects. Students select
their topics, form groups, and work to solve “real-world– problems.
As a final element to their research, the student teams present their projects
and are judged at a statewide exposition.
Students find the program rewarding, challenging, and a great way to integrate
their knowledge.

“I had the opportunity to do a project of my choice,
and thus I was able to experiment with what I could do with the computers. Once I
realized what things could be done, I was able to expand my previous goals and
do things that before I would have thought impossible.” — AiS student,
North Polk, Iowa
